2006 Stolo Family Vineyard Chardonnay, Anno di Isabella

92 Points, Editor’s Choice- Wine Enthusiast, August 09 Issue

A lovely Chardonnay, dry, elegant and minerally. Displays real control, with the pineapple, lemondrop candy, apricot and oak flavors balanced by crisp acidity. Easily as good as Chards costing far more, which makes it a value. - S.H. (8/1/2009) - 92

2006 Stolo Family Vineyard Pinot Noir, Anno di Isabella

Pinotfile Review

14.9% alc., 72 , $32. Yields 1.24 tons per acre, harvested at 27.4 Brix. Aged in 33% new French oak. Unfined and unfiltered. · Dark fruit aromas with whiffs of oak spice. A mid-weighted wine with ripe dark raspberry, edible flower and oak flavors. The tannins are nicely corralled and there is a refreshing citrus note to the finish which lingers with a riff of herbaceous oak.

2006 Wolff Vineyards Syrah, Edna Valley

90 Points, Editor’s Choice- Wine Enthusiast, August 09 Issue

What a great Syrah for twenty bucks. It’s as dry, full-bodied and peppery as a fine Northern Rhône bottling, with impressively deep flavors of sour black cherries, plums, violets and cedar. An outstandingly good buy, but only 174 cases produced. - S.H. (8/1/2009) - 90

2006 Stolo Family Vineyard Syrah, Anno di Isabella

89 points- Andrea Robinson- Some of the closest vineyards to the Pacific Ocean, just 2 1/2 miles distant - and you can taste it in the wine. There are distinctly Syrah notes of bacon fat, gaminess and black pepper, which are all-too-rare in American Syrahs. The cool climate influence shows in a lively tanginess to the fruit - red currant and raspberry - and the lively acidity. A real charmer.

2005 Stolo Family Vineyard Chardonnay

3 out of 5 stars- Brilliant!  BevX.com May 12, 2008- Deep straw to pale gold color. The nose instantly reveals this wine to a be a rich and unctuous, California style Chardonnay. The nose and palate is filled with notes of tropical fruit, pineapple, lychee, and sweet clementine, accented with citrus zest edges. Lush and velvety texture with a healthy dose of fresh acidity. Styled to please a wide audience.

2005 Stolo Family Vineyard Pinot Noir

90 points- Pinot Report September 1, 2008- Medium-deep ruby color; spicy, herbs and stewed cherry aromas; ripe, rich, spicy stewed cherry flavors with some herbs and sweet oak notes; good structure and balance; long finish. Rich, balanced style of Pinot with layers of flavors—quite nice to drink by itself.

4 out of 5 stars- Exceptional! BevX.com May 12, 2008- Dark ruby red color. Blackberry and cherry aromas abound being accented by notes of minerals, white pepper, and leather. The palate echoes the nose being amazingly harmonious marrying ripe and dried fruits with complimentary notes of earth, brown spice, and vanilla. Tremendous length with ideal balance. A beautiful glass of Pinot.

2005 Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir

87points- Pinot Report September 1, 2008- Deep ruby color; deep, closed, cocoa and spice aromas; ripe, closed, bit tight, deep cherry cocoa flavors; moderate oak and tannin; long finish. Deep style that's a bit closed right now. Make sure to give it plenty of air in the glass and be patient in the cellar.

4 out of 5 stars- Exceptional! BevX.com May 12, 2008- Deep, bright burgundy color. The nose is amazingly complex offering scents of fresh red cherry and crushed ripe wild berries accented with cardamom, clove, and violets. The palate is ultra lush while ideally balanced, supple in texture while balanced with great natural acidity. The finish lingers on for minutes with beautifully integrated oak notes.

2005 Stolo Family Vineyard Syrah

3 out of 5 stars- Brilliant!  BevX.com May 12, 2008- Deep, dark red color. The nose is incredibly complex offering scents of black cherry, blackberry, bramble, Herbes de Provence, pepper, and leather with a fine minerality. The palate confirms the nose while being a great deal more austere featuring rich, tart, dried black fruit and prune flavors. The finish lingers with firm tannins and sweet oak.

The rows of vines stretching west from Paso Robles toward the coast are ever multiplying, but few can reach further toward the ocean than the Stolos' parcel, just east of the fog-shrouded town of Cambria, perhaps 6 miles from the coast and just south of San Simeon. I first saw the vineyards in mid-2007, tasted the wine later that year, and didn't put the two together until this spring, when I was dazzled again by its potential. It gives new meaning to the second word in Central Coast.
